My O Gauge Journal on
 Modelling the GWR

A personal Journey

GWR Mogul

Another Warren Sheppard kit with 3500 gal tender. Some research has revealed that I will be building one of the 63xx versions that lasted into the 1960s.

Number 6346

Starting with the chassis and having acquired a couple of modelling books to help me identify build options

The front two axles are sprung. Driving will be off the rear axle.

The piston chambers are separate and screwed in place. The chassis front needs reshaping to fit under the footplate structure.

Several options for the chassis and cab sizes but for mine its a 63xx with short cab.

I used a method of springing the hornblocks by soldering spring wire to the chassis sides and drilling a hole in the top of the horn block so that the wire could push down on the axle bearing.

Nearing body completion. All the plugs are in and as you can see some filler to hide the inaccuracy of rolling the boiler on the floor, (I now have a rolling machine from Metz to take care of further rolling!

All books suitable for the 7mm modeller as the illustrations are all large and clear.
